The design reimagines the San Domino Lighthouse as an intimate boutique retreat , a place where history, sea, and solitude converge in a perfect geometric medley. The original lighthouse stands on an elegant octagonal base awkwardly grafted onto a rectangular building outline. Rather than hide this quirk, our design embraced it. Drawing on Italy’s rich tradition of monastic architecture and subtly referencing the hexagonal basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway that rise like natural steps from the earth, the masterplan becomes a delicate geometric medley: stone platforms, slithering pools, quiet rest areas, and winding paths on shapes that appear to thrust gently upward from the island itself. The lighthouse tower remains the centrepiece; every new volume recedes respectfully to preserve the endless Adriatic vista.

Inspired by the wind-carved Gargano caves, the ancient monastery on nearby San Nicola, and the ever-changing blues of the sea, every detail of the hotel is born from the site: skylit voids, weathered stone textures, smooth flowing walls, and panoramic terraces that give guests spectacular viewing vistas. The design is more than a hotel. It is intended to be a one-of-a-kind experience where a careful conversation between a revived monument and its landscape becomes a serene hideaway for travellers seeking silence and beauty.
